Trent Alexander-Arnold is nothing if not a risk-taker.
I’ve never seen a right back used as aggressively as him. Every choice is about attacking. To play Trent1 in your team is to attempt to outscore the opponent from right back. It feels like every pass is a progressive one, attempting to get the ball into dangerous areas rather than keep it safe. Positionally, we know how much he’ll get forward and potentially leave his side exposed for it. If the question is stick or twist, Trent will always choose twist. He’s the last person you’d expect to play it safe.
And people are sat here wondering why that person might leave his boyhood club for Real Madrid. His contract runs out this coming summer, which is presumably a conscious choice on his part. Though there’s always a chance someone else comes along, this certainly appears to be a “Liverpool vs Real Madrid” story. At the same time, things might be about to radically change for Alexander-Arnold’s place in the England national team. So let’s look at all of that, and ask: what’s next for Trent?
