really nice stuff Grace. and I know it’s sports, so my usual soapbox about “ranking art” doesn’t apply necessarily but… idk I get so tired of 🐐 discussions, it feels like it takes the air out of my enjoyment of their accomplishments
to use a non-footy comparison, I think I would have enjoyed watching Lebron play basketball a LOT more if the moment he came to the NBA people didn’t immediately start asking “IS HE BETTER THAN MICHAEL JORDAN” like chill different players different eras enjoy

I guess I measure excellence according to World Cup titles because that’s when the pressure is greatest and players are competing for their countries so the energy and enthusiasm is at the highest level. Something you also didn’t mention was how Pele succeeded at the highest levels for over 16 years! Four World Cup appearances over that time. Messi truly is an amazing player. I wish I watched him more.
